Yura Yura Teikoku started as a four piece in 1989. ~Ī uniquely Japanese hybrid of Jimi Hendrix, Les Rallizes DesNudes, the Velvet Underground, 60's Japanese pop and the 13th Floor Elevators. The rather solid fourth song concludes the EP on a subdued and inconclusive .c_deep. Both songs feature backing vocals by Ai Aso. The second might be my favourite of the 4 songs while the third songs seems like a studio experiment built on a quirky groove. The second and third songs continue in the dreamy, drifting style of their last single "Into The Next Night". Combining their new now developed skills in creating in sonic atmosphere with a new found lightness to their songwriting, the title track "Utsukushii" almost sounds like a more psychedelic version of "Out Of Time" era REM.
